| Arthurs Pass Day Tour We invite you to join us on a tour of discovery, of unsurpassed and breathtaking beauty and of rugged, spectacular and forbidding scenery.
From Christchurch travel by road across the Canterbury Plains to the foothills of the Southern Alps. At Springfield board the TranzAlpine train to travel through the Southern Alps to Arthurs Pass viewing the alpine scenery from large panoramic windows, said to be one of the great train journeys in the world.
From Arthurs Pass our tour then moves on by road into the rugged, snow-capped Southern Alps of the Arthurs Pass National Park to the upper elevations of the West Coast, passing by Mt Rolleston, noted to have the most northern glaciers in New Zealand, Temple Basin Ski field, where skiing is possible sometimes in mid summer, and through the spectacular Otira Gorge. A stop will be made at the viaduct lookout, renowned for magnificent photo opportunities. We then return to Arthurs Pass for lunch at the Chalet Restaurant in the picturesque mountain village. Following lunch explore the village and one of the many walks.
The return journey to Christchurch is by road through the Arthurs Pass National Park and the high alpine passes. A stop will be made at the Waimakariri River where you will experience an exhilarating jet boat ride through the spectacular gorges of the Waimakariri River. Following the jet boating, a stop will be made at a sheep farm for a late afternoon tea, followed by a sheep shearing and sheep mustering demonstration before completing your return journey to Christchurch. - Continue your tour by road into the snow-capped Southern Alps, the breathtaking beauty of the Otira Gorge and the magnificent photo opportunities at viaduct lookout and Otira
- Lunch at the Chalet Restaurant Arthurs Pass (optional)
- Following lunch there will be time to explore the picturesque village of Arthurs Pass and one of the many bush walks
- The return journey to Christchurch is by road through Arthurs Pass National Park and the high alpine passes
- Enjoy an exhilarating jetboat ride through the spectacular gorges of the Waimakariri River (optional)
- Sheep farm visit with late afternoon tea, sheep shearing and sheep mustering demonstration
